The month of Sha’ban is when people get ready for Ramadan. It is also very significant in and of itself. The following are a few of Sha’ban’s key elements:
Except for Ramadan, our Prophet ﷺ would fast more during Sha’ban than during any other month. Aishah (R) stated:
“I never saw the Messenger of Allah fasting for an entire month except in Ramadan, and I never saw him fasting more than he did in Sha’ban.” [Sahih al Bukhari: 1969]
The prophet ﷺ said that,
“The Prophet (pbuh) said about Sha’ban, “It is a month that people neglect, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which actions are raised to the Lord of the Worlds.” (Al-Nasa’i)
Sha’ban is referred to as the month when people’s actions are brought before Allah. According to reports, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“It is a month people neglect between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are raised to the Lord of the worlds, and I like for my deeds to be raised while I am fasting.
(Narrated by An-Nasa’i and Ahmad)
This hadith emphasizes how crucial it is to use this month to purify one’s soul, strengthen worship, and form prayer and fasting routines.
In Sha’ban, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) observed a long period of fasting. May Allah be pleased with Aisha, who told:
“I never saw Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha’ban”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Allah is said to forgive people who honestly ask for His mercy on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban, sometimes referred to as the Night of Forgiveness or Laylatul Nisf of Sha’ban. Many Muslims commit to extra prayers and supplications on this night in an effort to receive Allah’s blessings and pardon.
Ramadan preparation
Sha’ban is a kind of spiritual “prelude” to Ramadan. It is a time to refocus on Allah, perform regular acts of worship, and purge oneself of vices and negative behaviors.

noun. Sha·ban shə-ˈbän. : the eighth month of the Islamic year see Months of the Principal Calendars Table.
He said: ‘That is a month — between Rajab and Ramadan — that people overlook. It is a month, moreover, wherein deeds go up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I like for my deeds to go up while I am fasting. ‘ ” This means (1) we should strive in our fasting in the month of Shaban, like the Prophet, on him be peace
As Imam Abu Bakr al-Warraq al-Balkhi (RA), the uncle of Imam Tirmidhi (RA), said: ‘The month of Rajab is the month of planting (your seeds), Sha’ban is the month of irrigating / watering (them), and Ramadan is the month of harvesting the crop’.
The 15th night of Shaban is believed to be one of the greatest nights of the year. In fact, it is believed that after Laylatul Qadr, the blessed night in Ramadan in which the Qur’an was revealed, the most special night is the 15th of Shaban.
